Yesterday, whilst on a work social event in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, I found myself near one of my favourite new age shops and decided to treat myself to this fascinating deck, along with a couple of other lovely bits and pieces. As it also happened to be the Steampunk Market, I could not resist picking up a couple of wonderfully cool tarot pouches too, which I will be sharing with you in this video.
The Hieronymus Bosch Tarot is a richly atmospheric 78-card deck inspired by the extraordinary paintings of Hieronymus Bosch. Known for his strange creatures, moral symbolism, dreamlike landscapes and wonderfully bizarre details, Bosch’s artwork lends itself beautifully to a tarot deck that explores temptation, folly, shadow, imagination and the hidden corners of the human experience.
Created by Travis McHenry, this is not a conventional Rider-Waite-Smith style deck. It has its own distinctive structure, alternative card titles, unusual suits and court cards, all steeped in a medieval world of symbolism, humour, darkness and spiritual reflection. It is a deck that invites you to slow down, look closely and allow the imagery to speak in unexpected ways.
So, make yourself comfortable as we open the box, explore the guidebook, walk through every card and take a look at the other treasures I brought home from my little trip to Chesterfield.
