Photographic collections at the Provincial Archives of Alberta are diverse and plentiful and are used for a variety of purposes such as, but not limited to, research and private study, decoration and displays, documentaries, media and publications, as well as artistic inspiration. Photographic records at the Provincial Archives of Alberta include both government and private record collections and are one of the most frequently accessed record type. With thousands of images available in the self-serve photo area of the Sandra Thomson Reading Room (in-person visits) and available to search and order online using the HeRMIS database, users will benefit from this tutorial that not only provides some helpful steps and search tips to navigate and use finding aids and subject index headings, but also demonstrates how to order print and digital copies of photos which are available in various sizes and resolutions. Users are reminded to check copyright terms if use is outside research and private study and to note and cite the Provincial Archives of Alberta and the photo number so that images can be located in the future.
