All vehicles crossing into Mexico, either with Mexico license plates or Texas license plates are driven and occupied by people who are in fact Mexican citizens living either in Mexico or Texas and who speak Spanish and very little English (lots of them speak no English at all).
Unless you're a Mexican national living in Mexico and legally traveling into Texas border area or somebody with Mexican roots living in Texas who speaks Spanish and has relatives in Mexico, NO American, Canadian or Westerner for that matter should ever adventure into crossing the Mexico border. Feel free to ask IF you still don't know why it's strongly recommended to never travel to Mexico.
Moreover, if you're a proud American living in Texas and always legally carry firearms in your vehicle (strong supporter of 2nd Amendment and the God-given right to keep and bear arms), another reason to never drive your vehicle into Mexico.

Do not travel due to crime and kidnapping.
Violent crime, such as murder, armed robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, extortion, and sexual assault, is common. Gang activity, including gun battles and blockades, is widespread. Armed criminal groups target public and private passenger buses as well as private automobiles traveling through Tamaulipas, often taking passengers hostage and demanding ransom payments. Federal and state security forces have limited capability to respond to violence in many parts of the state.
U.S. government employees may only travel within a limited radius between the U.S. Consulates in Nuevo Laredo and Matamoros and their respective U.S. Ports of Entry. U.S. government employees may not travel between cities in Tamaulipas using interior Mexican highways and they must observe a curfew between midnight and 6:00 a.m. in the cities of Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo."
