Tapo C325WB Aurora Sequence May 11-12 2024 - Tauranga, New Zealand

dazzathecameraman 2024-05-13 | The full aurora sequence as captured by my backyard "meteor camera" (a TP-Link Tapo C325WB wifi home security camera). As we can see, the aurora was apparent as soon as the sky was dark enough following sunset. It really intensified between 8:45pm - 9:05pm and again around 11:30pm and very intensely at around 12:25am. There was further a outburst at around 2:30am and the activity died away by 3:30am.

This camera is normally pointed higher (as can be seen up until just before midnight) to avoid nearby security lights and local light pollution. I adjusted it down to try to capture more of the aurora.

Earth Rotation Speed

The Earth does not "spin", it "rotates".

Meteor on Tapo C320WS Thursday 2 March 2023 406am

dazzathecameraman 2023-04-09 | One of my two best meteor captures so far using my TP-Link Tapo C320WS home wifi security camera as a StarCam.

The camera is simply mounted outside on a short pole which I can very easily rotate to point in different directions or adjust the camera up and down. It is not in a dome as it is weatherproof. I haven't had any problems (so far) with condensation on the lens as the warmth of the camera unit itself seems to take care of that.

It is important to set the camera to Daytime mode so that the infrared lights are not on as these will attract and illuminate bugs. Also, turn off the green Status LED on the camera for the same reason.

The video resolution is set to the maximum available of 2560 x 1440 (QHD) at 15 FPS. The main field of view is approx 95 x 45 degrees but the corners are stretched out even wider due to the wide angle fish-eye lens. The camera allows detection recording but this does not tend to work for meteors etc.

I have a 64GB microSD card installed in the camera for continuous recording and can download any events directly from the camera over the wifi connection. The 64gb card holds about 5 days worth of continuous recording (or 10 recording 12 hours a night). The oldest recordings are recorded over.

The camera is wifi but also has an optional ethernet connection available (but no PoE Power Over Ethernet). I'm using wifi only.

The camera voltage is 9 volts. It comes with a 9v plug-pack with a 3 meter cable. I have added on another 10 meters of cable. I have also run it off a 12 volt battery using an electronic voltage regulator.

I'm also using a donationware home CCTV program called ContaCam which provides detection recording and also automatically generates a time lapse video every 24 hours just after midnight. The default frame rate for the time lapse is one image every 30 seconds but I have set it to 10 seconds. I set the video quality settings to maximum. There is a test mode in ContaCam that will generate red detection boxes around a moving object, which is quite helpful for quickly reviewing the previous night's footage and then I download any captures directly from the camera. Contacam is donationware and the developer asks for a donation of US$10 per installation - great value for an excellent software.

A Decent Camera for Eric the Angry Catfish?

Despite the worst kind of malicious lies Eric the Angry Catfish has been telling about me (which really doesn't matter since all the people who matter to me know the truth), I feel sorry for him believing that the Moon is abnormally "cartwheeling" across the sky and that some global catastrophe is soon to happen as a result. He genuinely seems to believe this and he can't seem to grasp natural "field rotation" caused by the observer's viewing angle / perspective.

Unfortunately for Eric, he doesn't own a camera capable of taking decent, detailed photos of the Moon showing features such as Tycho Crater - which he insists is in the wrong place, especially when the Moon is setting.

Eric the Catfish has to rely on other peoples images, often from people he doesn't even know and therefore he doesn't know the context of the images such as how the camera was mounted and whether it was orientated correctly. He has used several such images and videos as "proof" of what he believes he is seeing, but when scrutinized, the images prove no such thing.

I'm sure it would help if Catfish had a decent camera of his own so he could take his own photos and see Tycho's position for himself. My first choice for Moon viewing would of course be the Nikon P1000 or P900 but there are some very capable cheaper range cameras such as the Kodak PixPro AZ401 with a 40x optical zoom, currently on sale at his local K Mart for US$149.00.

There are of course other options such as second hand cameras for sale on Amazon, Craigslist etc.

So despite his lies and vitriol, I'd be willing to pitch in some dollars towards a decent camera for the crazy clownfish so that he can check Tycho's position at moon set for himself. Maybe then he will finally understand field rotation and understand that the Moon is behaving exactly as it should. It could be a real breakthrough moment for him like Logan Running had several years ago over what he believed was "Nibiru". Sometimes people can be helped.

Would anyone else be interested in pitching in for a cheap but adequate camera for Catfish? Just a thought at this stage. Let me know (via PM if you prefer). My email address is available via the "About" tab on my channel. :)

Quick Full Moon Rotation Check Update Nov 1 2020

Numerous photos and videos are in already (with more to come) from Northern and Southern hemispheres and ALL of them show that the orientation of the Moon is exactly as it should be. Tycho Crater is where it is supposed to be for the time of the night it is observed (and the resulting viewing angle). Polaris, the Northern Pole Star is still right where it should be with the Little Dipper still rotating around it every night. Should we be surprised?

Can You Help? Full Moon Oct 31/ Nov 1

dazzathecameraman 2020-10-29 | Eric the Angry Catfish Briggs still insists that the Moon is abnormally "cartwheeling" across the sky each night and that Tycho Crater will be at the bottom of the Moon (6 o'clock position) as seen from the Southern Hemisphere - especially as the Full Moon is setting the following morning (which will be around sunrise for most observers).

If you are able, please help to put this nonsense to rest by photographing or filming the Full Moon from your location, regardless of whether you are in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere. It would be ideal to get some photos or video of the Moon just before it sets, but as long as we have enough observations from different locations, we can confirm that Tycho Crater is NOT at the bottom of the Moon as seen from the Southern Hemisphere as the time it would be setting.

Catfish has been calling me a liar for 7 years and recently started a fresh attack and has now falsely accused me of being a child molester in order to try to silence me. Malicious lies will not stop me from speaking the truth. It is time to show him for what he is and put a stop to this.

dazzathecameraman 2020-10-26 | Tonight's Moon filmed from my location, Tauranga, New Zealand (37 Degs South) at 9:13pm DST (0813 UTC) Monday October 26th 2020. The bottom of the camera was level with the ground. Nikon P1000.

The Moon was at 11 degrees Azimuth (nearly due North) and 65 degrees Altitude angle. This was approx 15 minutes before transit / culmination.

Sorry Eric the Angry Clownfish, so much for your claims we would see Tycho crater at the bottom of the Moon from the Southern Hemisphere tonight!
