He was a father who had recently gotten married. On June 9, 2021, Jamie got into an argument with his wife. This continued when he showed up at her work. Jamie then went home, threw some clothes into his car, and took off. Jamie's car was later found near where he grew up. He was never seen again.

When buying a one-way airline ticket in Portland, Oregon for Seattle, Washington, he went by Dan Cooper. The moniker "D.B. Cooper" originated from media. For $200,000 cash and four parachutes, Cooper hijacked the flight from Portland to Seattle. In Seattle, Cooper obtained the cash and parachutes and released the passengers. With many members of the crew still on board, he directed the pilot to go to Mexico City, Mexico. Along the way, Cooper jumped from the plane with the cash. Some of the money was found in 1980 in Vancouver, Washington.

Clark was living at the time in Tigard, Oregon. He was born at some point in the 1850s. Marvin and his wife Mary had four children. Clark began traveling to visit his daughter in Portland, Oregon on October 30, 1926. He went missing along the way. In 1986, skeletal remains, along with some items from the early 20th century, were found in Multnomah County, Oregon. With the available evidence, law enforcement ruled this death as a suicide. Later DNA testing excluded these skeletal remains as those of Marvin Clark.
