Can you find the unserious moments in this music video? There are several, including the fact that a random dog ran up this trail and started following us, becoming the star of the video. He stayed with us during filming, and we never saw an owner. Until, at the end when we were leaving, his owner ran by and he joined back with her. Shoutout to Ollie the pup.
ABOUT THIS SONG:
Hey Mister has been one of our favorites to perform for so long, & it's out on all platforms! This song is about things not happening the way you planned, & the feeling of not knowing which way to go. It has dreamy, pensive vibes that are perfect for this season of change.
Hey Mister is about struggling with living up to self-imposed, & other-imposed, expectations. "Write your answer cause they need it now", is like - when someone asks you where you see yourself in "x" years, & you just don't know.
It's about questioning your motives, regaining the drive to go on, & persisting.
The climactic chorus is a musical expression of letting yourself think, & flowing with changes. It's like you took a long walk through a forest and stared at a waterfall for a while. Tried to capture that vibe in these visuals.
The final line being the same as the beginning represents a new perspective when asked that question. A perspective where you have given yourself time to process things & are trusting yourself more. The person in the song now does not feel the need to "write their answer".
We put so much into the production of this, and there's so much to discover in the synths, harmonies & layers! It also features Josiah's most intricate fingerstyle guitar, and such colorful, lyrical drums by DonutDrums! I always feel that Donut captures the lyrics and meaning of our songs in the way he write his drum parts. I tried to capture the song as well as showcase the fingerstyle prowess lol, in my video editing, as well as the cool drum fills.
We loved filming in the forest again, and filiming/editing video made me feel like this is our element.
Music vgm easter eggs: there are references to Mario 64's inside the castle walls, as well as Kokiri forest hidden within the song, as with all of our music.
