The oldest hat maker in the U.S., Bollman Hat Company, is featured as the next hero in NIST MEP’s Heroes of American Manufacturing series. In operation since 1868, Bollman has a remarkable American-made legacy. This employee-owned company is located in Adamstown, Pennsylvania, and makes hats under such brands as Bailey, Karen Kane, Helen Kaminski, Country Gentleman, Kangol® and more. By working with its local MEP center, MANTEC, the company has improved its operations and is now partnering with MANTEC and GENEDGE (the Virginia MEP center) on supply chain optimization and reshoring opportunities.

NIST's Manufacturing Extension Partnership program (MEP) works with U.S. manufacturers to develop new products, identify new customers and markets and reduce costs. Visit nist.gov/mep for more information and to contact your local center.
