Finally! After many a sunrise attempts at the summit of Helvellyn, my favourite mountain, I am rewarded with an insane sunrise cloud inversion.
I can’t wait to share this cloud inversion with you all. As some of you may know we got great conditions a few weeks back in the Lake District and had about four days in a row with perfect inversion conditions.
The week before I tweaked my left knee so was supposed to be taking it easy. I then had a cold for the first three days of cloud inversions in the Lakes 😅😅. But that didn’t stop me!
I was so determined and committed to finally getting the inversion I wanted. So I set the alarm for 02.30, 😅😅 and dragged myself out of bed to head over to the Lake District. It seemed everything was against me on the morning. Having been in bed for the last three days with what I can only presume was covid o forgot my car needed petrol. So I quickly set off to top it up. Next part of the A66 was closed for overnight works meaning a longer detour around to get to the Lakes 🤦♀️ Oh dear!
But despite turning up later than planned I set off with my backpack and head touch in the dark to head up to the summit of my favourite mountain yet again. My fingers tightly crossed.
I could tell that I still wasn’t 100% better as I had a raging headache and every single person was overtaking me on the way up. I knew I wasn’t quite going to make the summit for sunrise.
But at about 850m I suddenly emerged from clouds… and wow was it worth it! 😁
