This is how we do it!
Meet our high speed IntelliScan – the powerhouse helping bring newly released Vital Statistics records into the digital age!
For records assessed to be stable enough, Archival Technicians digitize records on this high-speed scanner. Small batches of records are run at a time and the speed of the scanning process can be controlled by the operator. The machine feeds each document, and it is suctioned to the conveyor belt. Overhead cameras capture high resolution images of both sides of the record as can be seen on the monitor.
Ideally, we could digitize all of the records using this efficient scanner, but sometimes due to the fragile nature of records, this cannot be done with out risk of damaging the record.
