NOAA’s GOES Solar Ultraviolet Imager (SUVI) captured the first significant solar eruptions of Solar Cycle 25, after a long period of inactivity. On May 29, 2020, National Centers for Environmental Information and Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulderscientists monitoring the SUVI feed spotted two solar flares, the largest observed since 2017—a sign that Solar Cycle 25 was ramping up.
