GOSH okay lmao.... nate draikinator drawing pokemon trainers again??? in 2020??? i doubt it
yeah okay if you go back far enough in my art history youll see my big fandom about 10-12 years ago was pokemon, specifically pokemon trainers like red, silver, wally, etc, mostly gen 1-3. I really like pokemon special/pokemon adventure (the manga) but game lore is what I tend to default to, because its a little more open ended. I know Wally like, in pretty much all material other than the game its clear hes sick with asthma or something, but I really didnt (and dont) feel like that fits with the game itself like, it just seemed more... severe than asthma to me, as a person who has asthma. Its not like they mention he has an inhaler or asthma attacks or anything, hes described as like fragile or sickly or whatever and then he moves in with his extended family because of the better air, and to me that just seems like. not asthma. I think muscular dystrophy is what i settled on, but, either way i really always felt like wally, like, being really really sick fit better with the sort of pathetic position of him being your not-rival lol.
i LOVE this meme like the original is so well done, absolutely gorgeous animation and you get this... real FEEL for the emotions the artist is trying to convey, and I really wanted to convey those same feelings. Personally, though, I dont want to depict self harm in that way, so I wanted to do something different, and Ive had it high on my to-do list for a bit but I hadnt settled on a character... i mentioned to a friend i was thinking about doing silver or wally and they were like is this a pokemon song??? are they saying pokemon? and i was like what??? and lo and behold the song IS pikachus lament by the living tombstone and i had NO idea askjfnasfd. so like what a hysterical coincidence. after that, it HAD to be wally.
