Jack Hutton | HELIOTROPE BOUQUET played 2016 by Jack at Alexandria Bay,N Y Jack Hutton video @jackhuttonrag | Uploaded June 2016 | Updated October 2024, 6 minutes ago.
This was the final Scott Joplin composition played by Jack on the last night of the Grand International Ragtime/Jasstime Festival at Alexandria Bay, N.Y. (May 27-29, 2016). Jack devoted two half hours to early ragtime, concentrating on Joplin. Louis Chauvin, a ragtime genius who died in his mid-20's, composed the first two themes. Joplin added two of his own and created one of the most haunting ragtime compositions ever written. Jack's Arpin-like playing turns Heliotrope Bouquet into a prayer that features Chauvin's gossamer chords and Joplin's melodic directions. Next year (2017) will be the 100th anniversary of Joplin's death on April 1st, 1917.
