In this film made in 2007 with Helen Dunmore (1952-2017), she reads ‘Dolphins whistling’, one of the poems from her retrospective COUNTING BACKWARDS: Poems 1975-2017 published by Bloodaxe in 2019. Widely admired as a poet, novelist, short story and children's writer, she was one of Bloodaxe's first writers, publishing her first collection, The Apple Fall, in 1983, and went on to publish all her poetry with Bloodaxe. Her tenth and final collection, INSIDE THE WAVE, appeared in 2017, and includes poems relating to mortality drawing on premonitions and experiences of death and serious illness. Pamela Robertson-Pearce filmed Helen at her home in Bristol in June 2007 reading a selection of earlier poems. This poem is one of six she read then: the complete film which can be seen at youtube.com/watch?v=a9STbmZRo74 For more on COUNTING BACKWARDS, please see: bloodaxebooks.com/ecs/product/counting-backwards-1199
