On this Samhain night, when the veil between worlds grows thin, we meet Hekate the torchbearer, guide of souls, and guardian of the crossroads.
In this reflection, I talk about Hekate’s ancient role as Psychopompos (the Guide of Souls), her connection to ghosts and the restless dead, and how those traditions evolved into modern witchcraft practices.
From ancient offerings left at the crossroads during the Deipnon, to her companionship with Persephone in the Underworld, Hekate has always stood as a bridge between worlds helping both the living and the dead find their way.
Tonight, as the witch’s year turns and the world enters its darker half, we can honor her not through fear, but through remembrance, gratitude, and the quiet act of lighting a torch in the dark.
