In sharing wisdom to the Class of 2024 from a “life filled with challenge and enjoyed many successes,” Heidi Heitkamp challenged University of Chicago students to stay “smart, curious and creative” as they begin the next stage of their careers. During her address as a speaker at the College’s Class Day celebration, Heitkamp, director of UChicago’s Institute of Politics and a former U.S. senator, encouraged students to take risks—picking something at least once a year that “scares the hell out of you—while using their voice to express their views, even with those who disagree.
