Here is GORGEOUS Heckel Bassoon SN #5800. The Heckel bassoons are the stuff of legends. Used by more orchestra professionals than any other bassoon, the sound of an older Heckel is unlike anything else in the bassoon world. This one was built right around when Heckel began to develop their revolutionary short bore design, and this appears to be one of the first short bore instruments that Heckel ever made Our professional bassoonist rated this instrument as 'the best bassoon we have in the shop' and that was high praise when comparing it to 7000, 9000, and 10000 series Heckels. Has a beautiful, sweet sound and is extremely responsive with an easy upper register.
This instrument is in excellent condition. It has just been completely gone over by my double reed specialist and is completely ready to play - please see a video of this bassoon being played on YouTube. Finish is original and gorgeous and the Heckel brand is clearly visible on all joints. The Heckel stamp in the boot is clear. Includes two original pre-war Heckel bocals. This instrument has original keywork, so it does not have the high D or E key. We will have these added in early 2026 if we still have it by then - price is currently adjusted to take this into account.
