At first glance the Ram and GMC heavy duty trucks have little in common. The Ram uses an inline six cylinder Cummins diesel and six speed automatic transmission with solid axles front and rear, while the GMC uses a V8 Duramax engine, ten speed automatic transmission, and independent front suspension (IFS). But there are plenty of similarities as well. Both use ladder frames with rear leaf springs and solid rear axles, and both make enough torque to haul anything you can imagine.
In this video, the owners of these two trucks talk about the factors that motivated them to spend their money on a specific make and model, and they also swap keys to drive each other’s truck and comment on what they like and don’t like about it. This isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison, as the 2018 Ram is a generation older than the 2024 GMC. The Ram also has far more aftermarket accessories, but the GMC didn’t need a lot of additions since it is the AT4X trim with Multimatic shocks, 35-inch tires, a locking rear differential, and powered steps right from the factory.
