To show what I have been doing recently here is a project I completed a few weeks ago I wanted to use it awhile before making the video for youtube . I bought this Heathkit HW-104 at the Burnips Michigan Hamfest about 3 years ago as a non working parts only unit it set on my shelf here a long time I did work on it a little doing some of the conversion in bits and pieces sometimes re-doing some items several times and putting it back on the shelf when I tired of it . More recently looking for something to do during the Covid 19 pandemic I I decided to get busy and finish it up . So here is the result of the project as shown in this video . I needed a HFO crystal for 6 meters and found a 19.660 MHZ crystal on Ebay that would oscillate on third overtone and was only 85 KHZ off from the desired frequency the VFO was easily tuned 85 KHZ off from normal then to compensate and works fine this way . On the air reports usually on the Kalamazoo six meter sideband net Tuesday nights at 8:30 PM .have been very good . The Receiver is very good with an added tiny low noise IC
pre-amplifier board also from Ebay installed on the receiver board it works as good as the receiver in the Icom 746 Pro and Icom 7300 receiver sometimes it seems to work even better . With the very sensitive pre-amp in the receiver I think it would not do well in a big city the receiver would probably not work well in an environment with lots of RF signals BUT I live in the country and it does very well. The transmitter final board was mofified with the 2 MRF 150 FET'S and the 16 volt capacitor on the 12 volt input pad was removed and replaced with a 35 volt one . YES I repeated myself about the two image traps
"senior moment" . Note I do make projects that do not work and are a total disaster sometimes and of course I do not make videos of those failures HI HI
