The heat pump in the shop is sick!! Here's the problem and the solution!!!
I put a new heat pump in the camp last spring and took the old heat pump, which was 15 years old, and last fall I had my son Derek install it in the shop.
The old heat pump was a Daikin and was 18 000 BTU. It cooled the shop nice till mid October and then it was heating the shop nice too. But I noticed around Christmas time the outside unit was starting to frost up.
One mld day just after the new year I used my heat gun to melt the frost and dry the unit out. All this time the heat pump was still heating the shop.
Then about mid January it not only frosted up, but iced up again. At this point I decided to better check into it a bit.
There are several things that can cause a unit to frost and ice up. I figured to try and make repairs to the unit might be on the pricey side and for a 15 year old unit, well I thought that might be pouring good money after bad so I bought a new heat pump.
I'll have a video about the new heat pump later on, but for now I wanted to show the issue with the old one. The shop is still being warmed and it's some nice in there when it's blowing a gale and cold as a pork shoulder outside!!
