Because yesterday, after I watched episode 4 of "Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka?"it finally happened:
I found mai true waifu. And her name's Kirima Sharo.
After years of searching, years of waiting, I finally found my one and only. And this piece is dedicated to her.
This soundtrack appears at the end of episode 1, 4 and 5, and it's one of my favorite soundtracks of Gochiusa.
If you enjoyed "Non Non Biyori", or if you are fan of slice of life series and enjoy watching "cute girls doing cute things", then you should really give "Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka?" a chance. The animation is top-tier and all the characters are insanely cute, plus it has a great soundtrack.
Btw, this transcription was done in only 2 hours, because I was totally mesmerized by Sharo (lol) and my inspiration has reached new heights. Plus, the piece is pretty easy to play. (I just kept the first take of my recording, and I was pretty satisfied)

After the huge hit “Your name” and “Weathering with You”, I was really looking forward to watching the newest movie by Makoto Shinkai. And I have to say, “Suzume no Tojimari” has really exceeded all my expectations and has quickly become my favorite anime movie from the last few years.
The message of the movie is really strong: Telling people to not lose hope for their future, even after experiencing a great disaster. I was also really surprised that the movie is directly referencing the 3.11 earthquake in Japan.
Since I was so impressed by the movie, I decided to make a piano medley and used four music pieces from the official Suzume no Tojimari soundtrack.
① Suzume Main theme 0:00
Its easily the most memorable melody of the movie: A simple theme in D-minor, initially played by the right hand alone. Throughout the movie, this theme has reappeared many times in different variations. I also wanted to include the deep breath of the vocalist from the original song as well. If you look closely at my right hand in 0:01 you can see that I deliberately raised my hands to recreate the deep breath.
② Sky Over Tokyo
Its another memorable scene in the movie. This particular soundtrack is playing when the giant Mimizu is about to cause a great earthquake in Tokyo. The musical buildup is very long and I added more and more layers (including the powerful drums in 3:22) until the music suddenly comes to a stop in 4:20. I tried my best to express a feeling of both beauty and despair on the piano.
③ Closing the Door
Its a variation of the Main theme and its being played near the end of the movie, in my favorite scene: Suzume finally went through the door and realized that little girl is actually her younger self from the past. She encouraged her past self to stay strong, even after all hope is seemingly lost after the earthquake. I still remember the final conversation between Suzume and younger Suzume:
“Big sister, who are you?”
– “I am your tomorrow”
I really, really love this scene, it was just so well made.
④ KANATA HALUKA 6:50
Its the ending song of the movie and serves as the grand finale of the medley. This is also the only piece in a major key and I added an additional finale with fast runs to celebrate the end of Suzume’s Journey. Finally, at the very end I played the main theme again but this time in a major key: A proof that all things will end well, if you give it enough time.

I hope you liked my Suzume no Tojimari Soundtrack Medley. I really love doing medley-type arrangements since I have the freedom to experiment with different song orders.
I am already looking forward to watching the next Makoto Shinkai movie - and I cant wait to see what kind of story we will experience next. Until now we have defeated a comet (Your Name), a weather anomaly (Weathering with you) and this time, a giant earthquake worm. Whats next, I wonder...

Ill take a break from transcribing now since a lot of stuff has happened. (read my facebook post).
This is one of the few Soundtrack piano covers Ive transcribed before the official release of the Soundtrack. Therefore, I added a lot of original part (including two variations of the main theme) in the sheet to extend the main theme.
I named the theme countryside in the transcription, since it doesnt have a official title yet.
The soundtrack is featured in the beginning of the very first episode of Non Non Biyori (the flute theme played by Renge), and its reoccuring quite frequently in the later episodes.
This is one of the most peaceful transcriptions Ive ever written and I hope youll enjoy this piece as much as I do.
Many thanks goes to Tehishter for recommending me Non Non Biyori, and Ludwig van Beethoven, because this transcription is heavily inspired by his Sonata No. 32, Op. 111, second movement.

My piano cover of unravel - the opening song of Tokyo Ghoul (2014). It was created while I was enrolled in a music conservatory in Germany and I was practicing many advanced classical pieces at that time. This might explain the extreme difficulty level of this piano arrangement, compared to my other arrangements. It is basically full with very risky jumps and super fast runs. Especially the particular guitar riff arpeggio at 02:21 is probably the fastest arpeggio I have ever attempted.
This piece is the most difficult piece I have ever arranged and I have put this song in my top 10 most difficult arrangements playlist on my channel as well:

I spend around 5 days to fully arrange this song but in order to fully play it, I needed to practice it very intensively for more than a week. This piece requires a high level of left hand and right hand coordination. There are many complicated rhythms in this piece and the only way to properly memorize them all is by repeatedly practicing it again and again in half speed.
Especially the intro melody in 00:35 is often called the wall, because of the sheet difficulty of that passage. There are huge jumps with both of your hands at the same time and you have to rely on your muscle memory in order to play it. It is indeed difficult to completely master this piece and I am seriously wondering myself, how I even managed to play this entire song in only one continuous take back then.
In hindsight, if I would arrange this song again, I would use my gained experience from the past five years to make it less frustrating to play, but without losing its musical quality. And I would definitely avoid using those cursed double hand jumps in 00:35.
Perhaps one day, I will make another crazy-level arrangement like this unravel again. But only time can tell whenever I am in the mood for it.

Initially I wanted to go into hiatus and return for winter anime season but after listening to the Kyousougiga Soundtrack, I was left in awe and I just HAD to transcribe it.
City of Eternity (original title 永遠の都, the third track in Kyousougiga OST Album) is played in the very beginning of Kyousougiga episode 1 and its also the main theme, because many other tracks of the Kyousougiga Soundtrack are based on the melody played in City of Eternity.
This transcription is basically divided in two parts. The first half is the fairylike part, it has a very calm and gentle sound, as if you are traveling in the vast shiny galaxy, like a fairy.
The second part is the legendary part: suddenly a majestic, grande world opens its gate, where all your dreams will come true, and you are entering it - and being left with awe.
The entire second half is played in forte and fortissimo and its building up with every bar until it culminates into a fast arppegio finale with the right hand, and ends with four bells in the left hand.
Yes, the soundtrack is just that epic.
Go and watch Kyousougiga if you still havent. It has a fascinating story and a really aesthetic direction, plus is has one of the best soundtracks of this anime season.
Also, Koto is love.

This is the most catchy ED song of this anime season, and I really love it.
And after looping the ending song for the 1000th time, I decided to make a piano cover.
Mikakunin de shinkoukei (or engaged to the unknown) is one of my personal favorite anime series of this spring season 2014, because every episode is just a lot of fun to watch. Especially the chemistry between the characters Kobeni and Mashiro is really well done.
Since the ending song (and its adorable chibi animation) is the greatest thing ever, I decided to make an classical influenced over-the-top transcription for Masshiro World.
Surprisingly the transcription was finished in only 6 hours. Probably because I was very motivated by listening to the ending song the whole time.
Its a very energetic transcription featuring a distinctive left hand octave jumping.
In order to get a more complete picture of the sheet, I included some original material to extend the 1:30min TV-size ED.
Did I mentioned already that I love this ending song?
Anyway, Owari no Sekai kara will be my next transcription and it will also be the last one, since nothing else particularly interested me in this spring anime season.
Heart Realize (noragami ED) is dropped, because hihumiro has already made an excellent transcription.

Steins;Gate is a true Anime classic and also one of my favorite Anime series of all time and I have lost count how many times I have rewatched it already. It also brought us many memorable memes like El psy congroo, Tuturuu~, Dr. pepper and the Nixie tube clock aka the divergence meter. I might be 9 years too late, but here is finally my piano arrangement for 「Hacking to the Gate」 - the Opening song of Steins;Gate!
This song was a little bit more difficult than usual to arrange because the second verse and second chorus are almost identical to the first one and I have to think of various ways how to avoid sounding repetitive on the piano. The left hand in 01:40 is playing in a higher voice range and its less rhythmical, compared to the left hand in the first verse in 00:16. Interestingly, the right hand pattern from the very beginning in 00:04 serves quite well as the left hand accompaniment in 01:53 and it gives the piano a certain floating sound.
Since Steins;Gate is an Anime about time travel and different world lines, I also tried to simulate it on the piano during each repeat of the chorus. The first chorus is played in the high register, the second chorus is where the world line divergence is happening and the melody is played in two different voice ranges in 02:30. The third chorus in 03:46 has a right hand tremolo, imitating the ticking of a clock and the final chorus has an additional melody in the left hand in 04:00, simulating the world lines, who are converging together. A similar effect is also audible in the outro part in 04:12, where the melody [C-B-G-G-A] is being repeated in rapid succession in different voice ranges.
Last but not least I also included a short musical Easter egg in the bridge part starting at 03:10. Can you guess which Soundtrack I am quoting in this part?
Alright, that would be everything about Hacking to the Gate. But I have a feeling, I can feel the presence of another me in a different worldline. I wonder why....

This lovely background music was one of the more prominent themes from the soundtrack of Isshukan Friends and it was stuck in my head for a very long time. Fortunately the mini-soundtrack of Isshukan Friends has been released a month ago and I finished the transcription in only one day.
This is also the last upload of the spring season, and after I returned from Malaysia and Singapore I will start to transcribe some songs of this anime summer as well! (SAO II OP Ignite full version is already planned, Ill wait for the full single release)
Also I have some good news and some bad news regarding this piano cover: The good news is, the piece is fairly easy to play compared to my other transcriptions. The bad news is, your left hand must be able to play a tenth, or else you wont be able to play the melody and the bass note at the same time. (sorry baddydan, haha)
Well then, I still have some time left in Germany to prepare myself for the upcoming live performance in Kuala Lumpur.
This video was recorded at my parents home btw, with my trusted yamaha upright. It had accompanied me for more than 16 years already, and I always feel very nostalgic when I am playing on it.

This song reminds me a little bit of a Vocaloid music because of the repeating piano pattern in the background and the overall electronic sound of the synthesizers.
No matter how often I listen to Daisy, I always get excited when I hear the chorus part.
I think one of the driving force for the entire piece is the off-beat bass rhythm and for some reason, it has a irresistable appeal to me. I tried to replicate all these rhythm pattern on the piano in the left hand and was more staccato and non-pedal than usual.
One of the big challenges of this song was actually arranging the second verse for the piano, because the melody consists of repeating the same D-note over and over again. I tried to make it sound more natural by adding the piano melody from the introduction part in the left hand in 1:38.
Instead of copy and pasting the first chorus like I always do, the second chorus in 02:13 has a variation with a vastly different atmosphere. I tried to create a dreamlike scenery on the piano, recreating the image of the beautiful night sky in the Ending animation of Kyoukai no Kanata. I am a big fan of OP and ED animations and I always dissect them frame by frame in my free time to analyze how each scene is transitioning into the other. It is usually extremely well done and I cant help but to admire the animators creating these wonderful sceneries.
The original song ends with a open Dmaj7/9 chord and I decided to do the same on the piano: starting 04:21 the melody is slowly climbing higher and higher, until it reaches the highest piano range, resembling the night sky as mentioned earlier. The arrangement ends in the same dreamlike atmosphere as it has started and the music has finally come full circle.
Well thats it for this weeks upload! This song has been on my to-do list for a very long time and it was requested many times since I have first played it in my Animenz Live concert in 2014. Its nice to revisit those old pieces again and arranging it again with my current style.
I still havent decided which song I am going to arrange next week, but I will keep an eye open for interesting songs. Anime Song suggestions in the comments are welcome!

First and foremost, I love the song Sakayume. When the credits started to roll at the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen movie in the cinemas, I just sat there and couldn’t believe my ears: Starting with an unforgettable melancholic string introduction, followed by a hauntingly beautiful chorus melody, and finally the breathtaking key change at the end: This song by King Gnu is simply awe-inspiring.
I decided to make a special piano arrangement by using my past knowledge about classical music and the end result is a “Piano Ballad”: A piece with many lyrical elements and a big emotional finale at the end.
① 1:01 How to make “organic” key changes on the piano
The original voice performance from King Gnu is simply amazing because of their brilliant use of voice glissando (slowly raising the pitch) for the key changes in the piece. Unfortunately, the piano is unable to perform these kind of smooth glissandos (unlike violins) and therefore I used an alternative key change in 1:01. Instead of d-minor → g♭-major I changed it to d-minor → g-major because these two keys are much closer musically related. All I needed to do is to simply change the f note in d-minor into a f# note.
② 1:07 Arranging in a “Piano Ballad” style
The slow string intro at the beginning of the song in 0:09 basically sets up the bittersweet atmosphere for the entire piece and I tried to expand it on the piano. When the drums started to play in the original piece in 1:07, I used arpeggios instead to maintain a more romantic soundscape. But once the original piece starts to play a noticeable pizzicato in 1:41, I also used staccato in the arrangement as well. The goal is to find a middle point between my own interpretation and faithfully following the characteristics of the original song.
③ 5:14 The “ascension” from darkness to light
In the movie, the main character Okkotsu is facing many hurdles to overcome his “curse” and I wanted to represent his inner conflict on the piano as well: I started by playing a diminished chord (“mysterious sounding chord”) in 4:57 and with each chord progression, the music is slowly “ascending” until it finally has found its destination in 5:14.
From this moment on, the music is preparing for its climax and it keeps building up and up - until it finally releases all the emotions in the grand finale in 5:21, heavily inspired by the music of Chopin. It is also worth mentioning that the arrangement itself started with a D major chord in 0:01 and ended with an Eb major chord in 6:26. In a way, the whole music has also experienced an “ascension” - by a semitone.
