The term "smokeless" is somewhat misleading. A more accurate description of the HearthFire would be a fire pit that utilizes a "secondary combustion." The fire heats air inside the hollow sides of the fire pit, causing the air to expand and then escape through holes at the tops of the panels. This hot, oxygen-rich air mixes with unburnt volatile gases and smoke, facilitating efficient and nearly complete combustion. "Smokeless" just sounds cooler.

This was a test of the first prototype of the HearthFire (pat pend). Soon to be on kickstarter. Join the newsletter to be notified when the project is ready to launch: hearthfire.emberlit.com
