Forget some cryptic social media post . In croc country, one perfectly timed HEAD SLAP says more than a thousand posts ever could. This week, Mrs Mo was caught unleashing the famous head slap, water bite or jaw slap /smack ! And, as always with crocodiles, it’s open to interpretation.

Was she announcing, “Single and ready to mingle”?

Was it a stern, “Move along, sunshine. This is my patch.”?

Or perhaps the timeless croc classic, “Everybody back off!”

Or and we hate to stir the pot, NOT ! Does this have anything to do with Mo’s 3rd relocation and Bray-dens taken up residence?

We’re not saying there’s trouble in paradise we’re just saying the timing has tongues wagging from Mowbray to the Daintree. Before the rumours get completely out of hand, here’s the scientific reality.

Head slapping is one of the crocodilian fams famous forms of communication. Crocs, alligators and their relatives use it for a whole range of reasons, including courtship, defending territory, displaying dominance or simply announcing their presence with all the subtlety of a freight train.

Think of it as the croc version of putting up a billboard, firing off a group text and slamming the front door all at the same time.

The slap itself is no half-arsed splash. It’s loud, dramatic & impossible to ignore ! But unless you speak fluent Crocodilian, your guess is as good as ours. One thing’s for certain though when a croc delivers a head slap, the whole river listens.
