A century-old barn in Sweden is about to become a fully heated dream garage—but first, Daniel has to lift the entire timber structure off the ground and rebuild the foundation beneath it.
Working largely on his own and determined to keep costs under control, Daniel transforms the deteriorating barn into a modern workshop built for the brutal Swedish winter. He excavates beneath the original structure, pours an insulated concrete floor with hydronic underfloor heating, builds a heavily insulated room inside the historic shell, and even recovers steel beams from a demolished bridge to support the new structure.
But the transformation goes far beyond the building itself. A recessed hydraulic car lift, massive wood-fired heating system, custom wall-to-wall workbench and an extraordinary homemade elevator turn the old agricultural building into a professional garage designed for serious mechanical work.
Through clever engineering, reclaimed materials and thousands of hours of DIY construction, the familiar old barn is given an entirely new purpose—without erasing the history that made it worth saving in the first place.
