Ethel Major, dubbed the "Corned Beef Killer," was a British woman convicted in 1934 of murdering her husband, Arthur Major, in Hull. After a troubled marriage marked by jealousy and infidelity, Arthur died suddenly following a meal of corned beef. A post-mortem revealed he had been poisoned with strychnine. Investigators found traces of the poison in the corned beef tin and evidence suggesting Ethel had purchased it. Her motive was believed to be revenge for her husband’s affair. Despite claiming innocence, she was found guilty of murder and executed by hanging at Hull Prison on March 19, 1934. The case drew wide public attention for its domestic motive and chilling method.
