I wrote "Unfortunate Ones" as a spiritual sequel to CCR's famous song "Fortunate Son", which is hailed as the unofficial theme song of the Vietnam War, with its powerful anti-war sentiments.
When Helldivers 2 first came out, I started singing "Fortunate Son" while destroying bots around the time of Malevelon Creek out of pure instinct. Then, one night during stream, I started messing around with the same chord progression in a higher key and a bouncier picking pattern. I then played a modified version of the famous "Fortunate Son lick" and gave it my own character. Lastly, I started singing the lyrics you now hear today, which eventually became "Unfortunate Ones".

As a combat veteran, I wanted to retain the same spirit and theme of John Fogerty's amazing song and give it a modern take for the military veteran of today and tomorrow.
🤖 There is no AI used in the making of this song. I played the guitar and drums and recorded it all in my garage using FL Studio. I wrote it completely on my own as a tribute to one of my favorite bands ever: Creedence Clearwater Revival. Thank you John Fogerty 🎸
