Family Guy Online is a free to play 3D cartoon themed MMOLOL (Massively-Multiplayer Laugh-Out-Loud) based on the animated television series Family Guy. It is developed by Roadhouse Interactive and ACRONYM Games. The game is published by 20th Century Fox.

Create your own character, and become a virtual citizen of Quahog. Explore the city, play various minigames, and engage in various hijinx with your friends, and the cast of the hit television show. Play right in your browser, utilizing the Unity 3D engine, for a truly unique experience, no matter where you are.

In any case, inside the persistent world, the Griffins are big players. These NPCs send you on quests and challenges which offer rewards including funny clips from the show and points towards upgrades and items. Quests include the kind of goofy nonsense and weirdness that has made Seth MacFarlane's show such a cultural touchstone for our times, and fans will recognize the jokes -- chasing Greased-Up Deaf Guy down the street, for example or rescuing a midget from a well. Expect giant chickens.

Players pick up special skills as they progress through the quests. There are plenty of basic tasks like beating people up, rescuing and fetching. Since it's an MMO, certain quests and tasks require team-work.

The 3D world is there to explore so you can mooch around Spooner Street and its environs. The producers had to construct a quasi-realistic neighborhood because, incredibly, the TV show's makers don't have an actual map of Quahog.

Family Guy Online offers five different classes:
1.Stewie
- Stewie is the "DPS" class hes fragile but can deal massive damage from afar.

2.Brian (locked at the time)

3.Chris & Meg
- Chris and Meg do moderate damage and are "tankier" type than Stewie.

4.Peter
- Peter is the "tank" and can take a lot of damage but can deal damage a little less than Stewie and Chris & Meg. Altough peter can hit multiple foes at once.

5.Lois
- Lois is the "healer" and can heal with kisses and hot chicken soup. She also can do some damage because she has trained Tae-Jitsu and the art of "Foxy Boxing".

You don't play as the Griffin family (or the other Family Guy regulars) in the game, but rather create your own character, using the Griffin clan as templates/types.

There will be additional outfits and items available through the game's store and Verchere said their plan was to eventually have things be very in sync with the TV series. The idea being that they'll get to a place where, "If you see a Halloween episode and Stewie was wearing this duck costume, by the end of that episode, that costume is available in the store. So we're working through that stuff now and looking through the show bibles and what's coming up in the season."

Writers from the Family Guy TV series have been involved in the game, making sure it fits the tone and style fans are familiar with and creating what the team calls an "MMLOL." As writer Andrew Goldberg noted, "We tried to create quests that are based on things that seem to be favorite bits of our fans."

While you can purchase some heavy duty abilities in the store, Verchere noted that many of them are activated by your level, so that someone can't just purchase items and abilities that would make them overly powerful right off the bat. He noted that Family Guy Online had some very unique skills as well, including "shoebox diarrhea," "groin kick" and "lick toad."

The Family Guy Online team were given the show's style guide and character sheets, in order to exactly replicate the look of the show, while recreating all the characters and environments for 3D. Said McCarron, "This is an extension of the show. We wanted it to look and feel like the show. It's more than what it looks like, it's how it feels. It's the animation." He pointed out that included making sure the characters walked in the distinct (and individual) manner they do on the show.

The core of Family Guy's humor, for better or worse, is its famous "cut-away gags." Roadhouse and ACRONYM wondered how said cut-aways might be implemented in the game, and a solution was born: for every quest you undertake, a relevant clip from the show pops up and illustrates how the task at hand fits into the show's mythos. If you're successful, another clip wraps up the events at hand. For example, if you manage to wrestle away Peter's beloved "Surfing Bird" record from him (violence is involved), then you'll get to see Stewie and Brian's slow-motion,

Like any good social game, you're going to need a little help from your short, squat, and portly friends. Family Guy Online has Group Quests, tasks that are not easy to undertake alone—unless you really think you have a chance at stopping a prison riot all by yourself. You can also try your hands at various minigames, like Chase the Greased-Up Deaf Guy, but be warned—you'll never catch hiiiim!
