Hayfield Community Schools is asking voters to approve a new 10-year operating referendum that would increase per-student funding to $1,250. Superintendent Gregg Slaathaug explains that while the district is not currently in financial distress, rising inflation, health insurance premiums, and unfunded state mandates have led to deficit spending.

If approved, the referendum will bring in approximately $395,000 annually to help preserve existing school programs and class sizes.
