This movement is one of those swift, short, and cheery finales that are typical of Haydn in his symphonies. The fact that it begins quietly with a catchy main theme (which will proceed to dominate much of the piece) and then abruptly becomes louder (0:29) is another technique he was fond of.
A second theme is more reserved, but still retains a happy and playful nature (0:59).
