Assessments have found major damage to infrastructure in remote areas on the Big Island and Maui, with crews starting to repair transmission lines.

The storm also caused a water treatment plant to discharge partially treated wastewater and knocked out 911 emergency service, with the public warned to avoid contact with water in the affected area.
