It is human to want to be both the victim and the victor, the one whose heart was broken as well as the one who decided they could do better. So I thought that's what I was celebrating in this poem. But an elderly lady named Miriam, to whom I will give a copy of this book today, made me think that my poems are cleverly worded excuses.
