Our cover of the "Hateno Village" music from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, originally composed by Hajime Wakai. This arrangement by Patrick Bartley. Recorded in Bronx, NY on June 3, 2018.
So... this may come as a surprise to some of you, and it's a surprise to us, too, actually. Those of you who've been fans of us for a while and/or have a keen eye may notice that this video comes from the same session as our "Star Light Zone" cover here on YouTube (youtube.com/watch?v=yJaOtoRRIaU). Well, this whole session was done before our Black Cat LES jam sessions were even a thing, and as this channel was still secondary to our "main" lives as working and touring musicians elsewhere, it was pretty difficult to stay consistent with content on this channel. This song, along with others we recorded (that actually got re-recorded and released as a part of the Black Cat LES sessions), ended up getting lost to time, and I (Pat) totally forgot we had it - that is, until rummaging through an old dying hard drive to transfer files led us to rediscovering this gem that ended up sounding MUCH better than I remembered. Of course, this was also done before I had the equipment to do the multi-track recording that you all are used to, so all the audio is off of one Zoom H4n recorder (however, my ears have gotten a lot better since 2 years ago, and I ended up salvaging this pretty well). I apologize in advance if the bass is a little hard to hear! I was just really blown away when coming across this again, and I wanted to share with you all what I think is one of our best acoustic performances to date.
This also comes from a time where I had just bought a Nintendo Switch for the first time exactly 1 month before this, and I was thoroughly obsessed and in love with Breath of the Wild. I truly think this is one of the most beautiful songs in all of VGM, and the performances here from this band even got me emotional looking back on it. From Ben Sutin's incredible violin playing, to Ben Zweig's beautiful percussion colors, Alec's unique guitar influences shining through on his solo, as well as the hook-up between Perrin's bass and Robbie's piano, this whole track really stands out among our Acoustic covers as one that I hope people get to see.
