The Hoenn Starter trio completed!
Treecko shined after 1,684 eggs
Torchic shined after 776 eggs
Mudkip shined after 6,032 eggs
Average = 2,831 (very nice!)
I opted to hunt these final starters for my Gen 3 Living Dex via eggs as I really wanted to make them special. I thought about hunting them as starters in Emerald but I would have been annoyed with an early shiny frame Zigzagoon and how to approach resetting. I don't think it would have sat right with me if I had then reset for a starter.
I really enjoyed hunting this method and I will do plenty of this style of hunting in the future.

A brand new challenge and not a bad way to start this quest. I decided to do a Water type mono challenge last year and I’ve finally started it with this Shiny Mudkip. I haven’t found a shiny female starter in a long time too so it was nice to get one. She shined just under odds after only one Poochyena.
I did hunt a Mudkip a few years ago but I wanted to fully evolve this one as I kept the original one as a Marshtomp.
I hope you’re excited to see this quest unfold. I’m really looking forward to hunting a lot of these targets like Corphish and Relicanth which are extremely rare in Gen 3 or at least not hunted very much.
If you’ve never done a monotype challenge, I’d really recommend it. It’s a fun way to play through any game.

Bit of a long one for this Genie but he decided to shine in a batch of decent luck for me recently. This shiny is quite underrated imo. I know we say that a lot as shiny hunters but its the truth. The deep purple particularly on the Therian Forme is different to the purple on the likes of Mudkip etc. I like it a lot.
This hunt is quite unique in a sense due to how its performed via the dex for maximum optimisation. Its necessary to have a Thundurus or Tornadus in your dex prior to starting and then you register the Formes page using the tick. Pressing select will jump you directly to the page. Its simply a case of watching the cutscene and then pressing the page to view if there is a shiny or not. The only other Pokemon this is beneficial for would be the fossils. If you revive 5 fossils and then check the form page, youll skip needing to check the party individually which is very interesting in my opinion. Im not sure if this is unique to Gen 5 or its something that you can do in later generations.
These arent really considered roamers due to the way its ideal to hunt them and are commonly referred to as a pseudo-roamer. Personally, they feel more like a static encounter hunt more than anything. With only 3 Routes to appear on too depending on the time of day, its a bit strange to add them to my roamer quest so theyre just something I want to do as random hunts as I appreciate their shinies.
