Miami-Dade County Extension offers rain barrel workshops throughout the county, all year long. Why? Well, South Florida's rainy season is prodigious, and if you're prepared to collect some portion of that free, pH-neutral water, your landscape bed, vegetable garden and orchids will love you even more than they do already! Starting in October 2013 the Irrigation Rebate Program is rebating the purchase and installation of rain water collection systems of 80 gallon or larger to the tune of $400. So watch this video and think about what portion of your landscape might benefit from turning off those sprinklers and turning on the rain water!
