"WHAT?! Roux produces a cover and it's NOT an AJR song? This is madness!" Yes, I get it. Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria and whatnot.
Aside from that, I know what you're thinking. 10th anniversary of Portal 2 and I produce something from a mod of the game? Not soundtrack from the actual game itself? Well, there are a few reasons I did that. One, it ended up being very fitting for the occasion. Two, it wasn't originally for the anniversary. This was actually one of the very first things I produced on GarageBand from back in the days of old when you could go to a restaurant and sit down. I happened to still have the old GarageBand file, spiced it up a bit with my newfound knowledge, and chose it as this week's upload.
You may have also noticed that it says "reproduced" and not "remix". I actually don't count this as a remix because it doesn't really do anything remix-y. Just a few added layers and changed instruments. Not trying to be perfect about it like I used to be. Just kind of experimenting with the sound a little.
As for the artwork, that has a bit of an interesting story. There was no way in hell that I was gonna draw out that background. It's way too complex and I simply did not have the time. What I did instead was something I've always wanted to try: a 2D character in a 3D environment. The background was made and rendered in Source Filmmaker (I finally figured out how to get those DLCs to work) and I drew out the character in MediBang. Another new thing I did was instead of coloring in the character and then shading him in, I drew the silhouette of the character and colored in the lit parts (the lighting specifically made for that to be appropriate). I actually really like how this came out. (I also made the boots into the braces like in the first game because I thought it looked cool and screw consistent timeline designs.)
On a final note, I absolutely love this game. The concept is fascinating, the story is amazing, and I always love a good puzzle game. I love it so much that, depending on how things go, I may or may not stream it later tonight. I think I've spent too long away from this game and really miss doing livestreams for you guys. This is not a promise, however. I'm streaming because it's a special occasion. Not because we have that stream schedule I was talking about. You'll know if the stream is on. ;)
