Peter Pettigrew had not only betrayed James and Lily Potter to Voldemort, he had also framed Sirius Black as Voldemort's spy. It was agreed that Pettigrew would be taken back to Hogwarts and turned over to Professor Dumbledore.
But there was one more secret to be revealed that night... Professor Lupin is revealed to be a werewolf and Pettigrew escapes after transforming into a rat again.
Harry helps Sirius and needs to push back the Dementors using Expecto Patronum. He almost gets captured by on of the Dementors. For a brief moment, Harry though he saw someone trying to help him. Was it his father? But no.. it couldn't be. Harry wakes up in the Hogwarts Hospital.
They hear from Dumbledore that Sirius Black is not faring so well. He's locked in a high tower and he'll be handed over to the Dementors soon. Dumbledore references the time turner to Hermione which she can use to go back in time. They use it to save Buckbeak and fly him up to the tower to rescue Sirius.
He learns that it was himself who cast the Patronus Spell that saved him from the Dementors.
