US Route 15 South provides the most direct and efficient highway connection between Harrisburg and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The driving distance is approximately 38 miles, typically taking 40 to 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
As you drive south from Harrisburg to Gettysburg, you will pass through Cumberland and Adams counties:
Mechanicsburg / Camp Hill: Just across the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg, this area offers plenty of retail stores, gas stations, and fast-food options if you need to fuel up early.
Dillsburg: Located roughly the halfway point of the drive. It features local farm markets, diners, and a few convenience stores directly off the highway.
Latimore Creek: You will pass the historic Latimore Valley Fairgrounds, home to the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.
York Springs: A small, rural borough known for its extensive apple orchards and fruit markets lining the highway corridor.
Upon reaching the end of this route, US-15 passes directly alongside the historic Gettysburg National Military Park. You can exit onto Route 30 (York Street) to head directly into the center of downtown Gettysburg, or exit onto Route 97 (Baltimore Pike) to arrive straight at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum.
