My friend Greg Kohler--engineer, bluegrass banjo player and gourmet garlic grower-- makes his own ice boats and has to get his "hard water sailing" fix every winter even if it means traveling north to colder weather. This year it was plenty cold close to home, at Rose Valley Lake in Pennsylvania. Usually the experience is very cold, especially with wind chill, but that day in March was mild. Unfortunately, we hit a bump and with my extra weight, one of the skates bent. You can see the spray scraped from the ice gives visibility to the wind about a minute in.
