I just spent two weeks at Hard Rock Riviera Maya on the Heaven adults-only side — and this trip was very different from my usual experience there.
This used to be one of my favorite Hard Rock resorts, but it’s currently going through a major transition. The Hacienda side is under heavy renovation — including the member pool, the large lagoon pool, and buildings 7 & 8. Three restaurants were also closed: Frida, Ipanema, and Pizzeto.
Unfortunately, service quality slipped this year. Even after speaking with the Head of Public Relations on day 4, the cabana service remained inconsistent, and by day 13, I’d only received one bottle of water at the VIP beach.
By comparison, Hard Rock Cancun’s 2021 service was exceptional — clearly showing how differently each property handled the post-pandemic recovery.
That said, non-members might not notice these issues. As one staff member put it:
“If you book with Expedia and all you want is poolside drinks, you’ll still have a great time.”
And it’s true — that’s why the resort still ranks #1 on TripAdvisor.
The dining experience remains the resort’s biggest strength:
⭐ Le Petit Cochon
⭐ Ciao
⭐ Los Gallos
⭐ Zen Express Sushi Bar (a great new lunch option)
If you’re planning a stay, my honest recommendation is to wait a few months until renovations and service standards return to the usual Hall of Fame level.
