Owning a home studio is one of the best things you can do as a musician — and one of the easiest ways to accidentally make things harder than they need to be.
I’ve been working out of home studios for over 20 years, and I’ve made just about every mistake there is to make: over-complicated workflows, too much gear, cable chaos, bad monitoring decisions, and yes… drinks placed way too close to expensive equipment.
An honest look at what actually helps (and hurts) when you’re trying to build a home studio that’s efficient, welcoming, and easy to work in. The goal isn’t having the “best” setup — it’s removing friction between an idea and hitting record.
Hopefully, you can learn from my mistakes and avoid a few of your own.
