No one knows for sure what day Frederick Douglass was born. He didn't know, either, beyond that it was probably in February. Eventually, though, he came to celebrate his birthday on February 14. Happy birthday to one of the greatest orators the world has ever known. His life and work as an abolitionist and advocate for equal rights for African Americans and women still resonate more than a century later.
