Sergei Rachmaninoff shared a special connection with The Philadelphia Orchestra. He was so inspired by the famous “Philadelphia Sound,” that he composed with that sound in his head. Among the five works written specifically for the Philadelphians, the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini was given its world premiere in 1934, and pianist Haochen Zhang performs this piece March 20–22 in Marian Anderson Hall at the Kimmel Center!
