This is the 5th and final podcast in the Fancy month series (June 2018). It’s only fitting we end this series with some sparkle and pizazz.

Mallory interviews Zede about her beading beginnings which turns out is related to musical theatre. Zede’s beading passion really progressed when she discovered Nancy Eha and her wonderful book, Off the Beading Path. Up until this point Zede had mostly found beading information related to Native American beading styles and methods and quilt embellishment which were great start. This book furthered her knowledge and allowed her to really explore hand beading on garments. Nancy’s book was also inspirational for Mal and she picked up some beading skills herself.

When hand beading Zede has some preferences. She likes to use beading needles – the short size and sharp point lends itself to fabric use. She also recommends silamide thread-  a durable, pliable waxed thread perfect for sewing beads on fabric. And as for beads, that is a personal preference. There are tons of beads made from all types of materials. Beads can add interest, sparkle, and movement to garments as well as practicality, like holding down the ends of a flowy shawl.
