Hi everyone,
Jon and I hope you'll have a fun and safe Halloween this weekend. This is our group hug with you to say thanks not for watching or liking or commenting, but for showing that you care. We see you, and we really value you for the things that remind us that you're there and that you care. And don't think that just because you're quiet or busy, we don't acknowledge you; we're still hoping to eventually hear from the person from Massachusetts, who's been silently watching the HoMM videos for almost a year now. =) Although I won't list every country or state I've seen on the list, I want you to know that we think of you fondly for the connection we share through these videos.
I would also like to take this opportunity to touch a bit on some thoughts I've had about the videos we're making. Back before we started uploading videos, Jon would fiddle on the guitar and create lovely little tunes that he'd play for a couple of weeks then forget about because of new tunes that crept up. I was quite happy when he finally agreed to letting me upload videos because I always wanted some record of what he created. And because he's always been a gamer, I wanted to combine music and gaming to create videos that could entertain. Entertainment is quite personal, of course. =) Jon is no YouTuber, just a gamer, so his low-key personality isn't for the masses, but I quite like that and wouldn't want it to change where Jon didn't accurately represent himself in commentary and gameplay anymore. But with that little backstory out of the way, the main thing I wanted to mention about the videos is that we've not been very good at keeping any kind of regular schedule for the videos. It's usually that I'm behind on turning footage into videos or Jon hasn't recorded enough for me to use, and we've not yet been able to balance the two. After a year of this, it's kind of safe to say that we'll never be able to balance them. =)
It's not fair to you if you're following a series and I'm randomly uploading videos from different series because it feels very fragmented, so I've been editing differently. Shooters like Heroes & Generals are easy because they're fully packaged all on their own--there's a beginning, an ending, and a full match is usually under 30 minutes, so I don't have to break them up; those will still be random. But with other videos, there still won't be any regular schedule but I will edit and upload them so that a series is more connected. So if I have two hours of recorded Enderal, I'll edit them together and publish them close together so there will be a week of that series for easier follow. Then after that, I'll edit Heroes of Might and Magic or Mount & Blade. It might not seem even or balanced in the number of videos for a certain series, but I think it's important that Jon records what he wants to play so that the shared game experience is an authentic one. A series might seem missing for a while, but I'll never abandon anything without letting you know the plan; of course in the event of injury or worse, I wouldn't be able to keep you posted. =)
You're not "viewers" or "subscribers" to us. It's special to connect with you through something we created, so even though we don't know much about each other, my guess is we see the world a little similarly. Watching and listening to someone play something for 20-40 minutes is quite personal, and that is our shared experience. And that's what we really value from this little space we have on YouTube--grouping up with others who might want the same for a better world. Love to you.
