I tried to make the house a bit more interesting this Halloween. Unfortunately, I missed recording the better scare reactions, since it was a one-man show with too many buttons to push (3 computers) in order to cue sounds, lights, smoke & camera, while wearing gloves and a mask I could barely see out of, and had some technical difficulties, including burning out two oscillating fan motors that made the grave zombie move.
I didn't get many visits. But the ghoul on the porch, timed to roar with a strobe light and a fan to billow the cape, caused some people to jump back onto the stairs, afraid to approach the door. One group was yelling "trick or treat" from the sidewalk, afraid to even walk up the stairs.
As a kid, I liked the opportunity Halloween presented to face fears, and grow a pair.
