A Reunion in Dublin | Teacher Off Duty (Teachmas #6) Angie Leon 2018-12-06 | || May 25th to 28th 2018 || Hey y'all! It's Day 6 of Teachmas!Back in May, I reunited with two friends that I hadn't seen in YEARS! Between the 3 of us, we live in 3 different cities in 2 different countries. We hadn't all been together in about 4 years, so we were definitely going to make the most of it!I was only able to join for a long weekend in Dublin. We were lucky enough to witness the repeal of the 8th amendment, view the Book of Kells, and tour the Guinness factory. Play-Based Learning in Billund | Teacher Field Trip Angie Leon 2018-07-09 | || May 18th, 2018 || Hey y'all!I definitely dropped the ball when it came to my classroom vlogs, but the end of the year hit me like a ton of bricks! I barely had enough time to get things done, so vlogging had to take a back seat. I'm hoping that I will pick up it up again in the new school year, so stay tuned for that! Way back in May, I had an opportunity to travel to a Billund, Denmark (where Legoland is). We spent most of the day at an international school observing play-based classrooms in action. Using Games to Talk About Gun Control Issues | 5th Grade Activities Angie Leon 2018-05-21 | || Recorded May 4th ||Hey y'all!I was orginally going to include this in my weekly vlog, but it made that video SO LONG. I decided to make a separate video dedicated to this topic instead. For the past month or so, I've been working with a small group of 5th graders working on their research project. My group is focusing on gun control, and this gave me a unique opportunity to address this important issue with older students. However, I struggled at the beginning because communicating with 5th graders is MUCH different than with my usual PreK littles. Therefore, I decided to try a different tactic. I spent a session playing games with my group to see if it would help illustrate some aspects of this topic as well as get the conversation going. I was happy to see how engaged the kids were and how eagerly they shared their opinions with each other during each game. They were surprised that a 'baby teacher' like me knew so much about guns violence. I'm sharing this video because I know how difficult it can be to address such a serious topic. But the reality is that we NEED to talk about these things with our children.
