Dumb phones (ultra-minimalist devices) are a cool new trend, but I am just a bit too in love with the convenience and features of my smartphone to give it up entirely. As I say in the video, there is a middle ground between "using a brick for a phone" and "allowing your phone to completely take over your life and attention". You can find what works for you!

I get overwhelmed by features very easily, so when an app has projects and contexts and deadlines and labels aND TAGS ... I get a little analysis paralysis and end up getting nothing done. I've been wanting to make this video but it took me a while because wanted to make it *thorough*. Procrastination is such a complex problem that it didn't seem right to brand any one app or technique as the "easy fix".

But if I think back what changed between my 5th grade self (horrible blend of procrastinator & perfectionist, staying up past midnight to finish my silly little book reports) and my current college student self (staying on top of things, always starting work early, etc.), I could identify THREE categories of important changes that TOGETHER made alllll the difference for me. I would be a LIAR if I said that my habits & routines are always 100% consistent! Usually, after a few weeks, some aspects start to slip. I get busy with school, with YouTube... I didn't want to include TOO many specific details on what each phase of the cycle is like, because everyone will experience them differently. My goal is simply to remind you that we all function differently and perhaps to inspire you to give this framework a try, if you've been struggling with maintaining a daily or weekly routine. This past year was the worst.

I've been wanting to make this video for a while, to show that, in the words of a popular Netflix k-drama, "it's okay to not be okay". I just wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to say on the topic, because I felt that a good, shareable story on the internet must have a clear storyline with a climax and resolution. Something along the lines of - "Here's how I figured out why I felt bad and how I fixed it in 3 simple steps in order to now be successful and happy!".

Well, life usually doesn't fit that template, which is partly why this video is a mish mash. It's part mental health story, part NYC vlog, part nostalgic look back at my childhood years in Wisconsin. I like how it came together, and I hope it makes you feel a tiny bit less alone.
