The Gyro Chaser is a high-efficiency, competition-style model rocket designed specifically for the helicopter duration event. Engineered for 18mm engines, it is a performance-driven model that equalizes the playing field, providing even novice competitors with a legitimate chance at a first-place trophy.

The heart of the Gyro Chaser is its advanced 3D-printed rotor hub. Moving beyond traditional laser-cut plywood, this hub is manufactured from a specialized urethane with mechanical properties similar to ABS plastic. This transition to 3D printing allows for a level of geometric precision that is impossible to achieve with wood. The result is a perfectly balanced hub that allows the rocket to spin with significantly less friction once the blades deploy. This superior autorotation translates directly into longer hang times and more spectacular, record-setting flights.

The Gyro Chaser also features a 3D-printed parabolic nose cone, a shape specifically chosen to replace traditional elliptical profiles to further reduce aerodynamic drag. To streamline the assembly process, we have molded an integrated alignment post directly into the base of the nose cone. This post ensures the central graphite rod—the axis upon which the hub spins—is perfectly centered every time. By integrating this feature, we have reduced the total part count of the kit and eliminated the guesswork often associated with helicopter duration models.

What sets the Gyro Chaser apart from standard designs is its internal rotor blade storage. While many models mount blades externally, the Gyro Chaser carries them inside the 24mm body tube. While this requires a slightly larger diameter than a minimum-diameter rocket, the trade-off is a massive reduction in drag during the ascent phase. This allows the Gyro Chaser to fly much higher than competitors using externally mounted blades.
