In this video we explore the logical structure of the Phenomenology of Spirit as Hegel guides us through the natural stages that include consciousness, self-consciousness, reason, spirit, religion and absolute knowing. Throughout the video the internal logic of each stage is explored with a triadic structure which reveals an inner lack or absence internal to the structure which connects spirit to knowing of the next logical process. This process ends or culminates in absolute knowing, a state of being in which spirit is reconciled with lack and contradiction, and is capable of thinking from a qualitatively transformed standpoint of its own being.
First published in 1807 the foundation of philosophy was forever transformed after Hegel was capable of articulating a higher order understanding of the understanding as the becoming of spirit in history.
This video is based on a 1977 publication of Phenomenology of Spirit which was translated by A.V. Miller with a foreword by J.N. Findlay.
