This is a short selection from one of my Introduction to Philosophy classes taught at Marist College, a session which was focused on the Self-Consciousness section of G.W.F Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit, specifically on the "Master-Slave Dialectic". This is a bit of an introductory-level lecture, intended to help students who have no background in philosophy better understand this rather difficult text.

In this short bit which is from midway through the lecture, I discuss what self-certainty looks like concretely for self-consciousness for Hegel at this stage of the dialectic. I also connect it to two other key themes, negation and desire.
