Oh boy, where do I even begin with these two? When I first started watching this show this year, I interpreted them in a much different way then the majority of the fandom did. Honestly, with the way that the first two seasons were being written, I thought that it was obvious that Jack and Gwen were the more focused partnership of the show for both friendship and romantic reasons. Not only did they have sexual chemistry in the first season, but Gwen was always there when learning about Jack's past romances in season one, and the one who could make him change his mind about certain opinions that he had. She's the one in the group who brings the others back down the earth and says "hey, remember this is affecting these people over here as well" which Jack can't always see because he has been immortal for so long. Their fiery relationship that is full of so much respect for each other is something I can appreciate. And when season 2 came along, it finally started getting more romantic like I thought the writers were originally going for because a part of Gwen is deeply in love with the life that Jack has brought her (according to her actress). Jack made it very clear to me that one of the reasons he came back in season 2 was for her, but once he realized she was engaged, he backed off, and pursued a relationship with Ianto instead (that started off with casual dates). During the wedding/dance scene, he's still really focused on Gwen and idea of losing what they might of had if he risked going after something he desperately wanted (imo). Gwen even told Jack, when he finds out that she's engaged, that she wants stability and someone who isn't afraid to tell her how he feels about her.
But in the end, a lot of the Jack and Ianto fans got what they wanted and it became more of a real thing in the third season.
Although I think Jack/Ianto's relationship was cute, I still think Jack and Gwen's dynamic had so many dimensions that it's what made the show for me.
And I can't honestly believe that somehow Gwen could be happy with her life as being a wife and a mother without torchwood, and realistically, I think it would be hard to have both.
There are many things I would like to change about the plot after season 2, but I really hope the fans will enjoy this.
I don't mean to spread any couple hate by this video. Jack and Ianto have remained a popular couple in the fandom.
